19 arrested in automobile insurance fraud case – Sun

Authorities arrested 19 people, including one juvenile, on Wednesday as part of a six-month long investigation aimed at combating automobile insurance fraud.
The multi-agency investigation, dubbed Operation Brakes on Fakes, focused on fake motor vehicle insurance cards.
“This alleged scam was perpetrated by those who cut corners while putting others at risk,” Palm Beach County State Attorney Michael McAuliffe said in a statement Wednesday. “Using fake insurance cards to register a vehicle or presenting fake information to officers when stopped undercuts the process we depend on to know who should be driving and who should not be on the road.”
By Wednesday morning, 19 people had been arrested and authorities said 15 others were at large, according to Karen Clarke of the Palm Beach County Tax Collector’s office.
They face charges including false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card, sale of motor vehicle with altered odometer, petit theft, among other charges.

Deon Brandon Carswell: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Joshua Robert Darcy: 1 count of sale of motor vehicle with altered odometer; 319.35 1c (3 F) – maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Matthew John Darcy: 1 count of sale of motor vehicle with altered odometer; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison. 1 count of title fraud; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison. 1 count of petit theft; maximum allowable sentence: 1 year in Palm Beach County Jail.
Winfred Darville: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Michael Stephens Davis, Jr.: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Christian Lanat Franklin: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Quanteria Sequesha Harris: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Lavert Herrington: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Kashay Jackson: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Ariane Lockett: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Madonna Odessa March: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
Juan Pablo Martinez: 1 count of false or fraudulent motor vehicle insurance card; – maximum allowable sentence: 5 years in prison.
