Dubai-based travel services company, dnata, has announced its foray into the corporate travel market in India.

The corporate travel industry is made up of travel services geared toward those travelling for business purposes. According to dnata, the corporate travel market in India is estimated at $20 billion.

As part of its Indian foray, dnata in partnership with Hogg Robinson Group would be offering corporate travel solutions in India, including a 24X7 contact centre facility for reservations, online corporate booking tools, visa services, travel insurance, worldwide car rentals, event management, incentives and VAT reclaim.

Declining to quote the exact investment involved, Mr Gary Chapman, President, dnata, said it was a “modest amount”. He further said that the amount will go up as the company scales up operations and needs more working capital.

“Entering the Indian market was a logical progression of our business as we regard India as a growing market and see it full of opportunities going forward.

“Initially, we would be focussing on the corporate travel segment before implementing a phased approach to other travel verticals including leisure travel, online and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) market.”

“Our services would go beyond that of a travel agent and booking tickets and encompass travel management solutions including technology and financial solutions to our customers to optimise their travel experience,” he added.

Commenting on the impact of the current global economic crisis on their travel business Mr Chapman said: “Given the slide in the rupee and the situation in EU, travelling abroad will become expensive but this would also be the time that travel service providers like us would have to adapt and become creative in offering low cost travel solutions to customers by working closely with them.

“There would be a natural adjustment eventually though it might take sometime. Irrespective of the situation, the desire and aspirations in people to travel around the world would continue.”
