Global Financial Services Organization First to Offer Mobile App in Insurance Sector

Sun Life Financial, an international financial services organization with corporate headquarters in Canada, has released a new mobile app, said to be the first of its kind for the country’s insurance industry.
Sun Life worked with Kony Solutions , a mobile application platform provider, to develop and deploy the mobile application, available for iOS and Android devices.
The My Sun Life (Canada) mobile application provides lets policy holders and insurance plan members submit benefit claims and check plan balances, among other features.
The Kony Platform is based on a single code-base, so client applications can be more easily optimized for each delivery platform and format, be it smartphone, mobile Web browser, media tablet, SMS, online gadget or in-situ kiosk.
Kony says it can create rich mobile applications for more than 9,000 devices, seven operating systems and multiple channels, including the HTML5 standard, while maintaining native app features and functionality.
”Our goal was to create a compelling mobile offering that made it even easier for customers to do business with us and early feedback has been extremely positive,” said Mary De Paoli, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Sun Life Financial. “Sun Life was the first Canadian provider to introduce e-claims with instant adjudication 10 years ago. We’re continuing our focus on innovation by taking convenience to a whole new level with My Sun Life (Canada).”
Kony also provides a platform with a fully-integrated security and social media package along with multi-language character sets to support mobile offerings on a global scale.
The digital media company has offices in Toronto, the U.S. and India.

Sun Life group plan members with an iPhone or BlackBerry can download the free app directly from each manufacturer’s application marketplace. Using the mobile application, customers can now use their smartphones anytime, anywhere to:
“We evaluated competitive offerings, and chose Kony to launch our mobile solution as we found e-claims are becoming very popular with our customers. We expect this app to contribute to our overall growth in our Group Benefits e-claims which have so far totalled 1.7 million, up 73 per cent in the first three quarters of this year over the comparable period in 2010,” said Alice Thomas, vice president, digital, CRM, Contact Center Application Services for Sun Life Financial. “We’re looking forward to working closely with Kony in the future.”
Kony recently named Anirban Roy as Chief Operating Officer (COO), India operations. In this role, Anirban will spearhead all customer and partner engagements from an India operations perspective and will be responsible for scaling Kony’s delivery capability by implementing best practices in all aspects of delivery management. Anirban joined Kony from Citigroup where he spent 17 years in various technology leadership roles based in Singapore and the U.S.

Prior to joining Kony, Anirban spent most of his 17 years with Citigroup in Singapore where he was responsible for implementing large scale, complex, multi-business financial applications both for Internet and mobile channels. Apart from Singapore, Anirban spent four years in the U.S. as part of Citigroup North America IT where he was involved in setting up a new technology center of excellence in Cincinnati, Ohio to showcase the latest Internet, mobile and ATM technology platforms for North America Consumer Banking.
