Guardian Life Names Jonathan Renfrew Vice President, Federal Affairs

WASHINGTON & NEW YORK, Nov 30, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The Guardian Life Insurance Company of American (Guardian), one of the largest mutual life insurers and a leading provider of employee benefits, today announced that Jonathan W. Renfrew has joined the company as Vice President of Federal Affairs, a new role. Mr. Renfrew will head Guardian’s newly established Washington, D.C. office and will represent the company in federal legislative and regulatory matters, and in key industry trade groups.
Mr. Renfrew has nearly 15 years Congressional and private sector government relations experience, which includes more than a decade serving in senior staff positions within the U.S. House of Representatives and the House Leadership. He reports to Tracy L. Rich, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.
Before joining Guardian, Mr. Renfrew was Director of Government Law & Strategy at Brown Rudnick LLP in Washington D.C., where he represented a diverse cross section of Fortune 500 companies, influential trade associations, and small and emerging businesses in the insurance, financial services, tax and healthcare fields.
From 1997 through 2008, Mr. Renfrew served in a variety of positions in the House of Representatives, most recently as Chief of Staff to Congressman John B. Larson, then Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and a member of the influential Ways and Means Committee. From 1997 through 1998, Mr. Renfrew was a Legislative Assistant to (former) Congresswoman Barbara B. Kennelly.
