Nov. 23–HINTON — A representative from the West Virginia Association of Counties, Paul White, appeared before the Summers County Commission Monday to discuss the benefits of life insurance for county employees.
White told commissioners that the association has endorsed additional insurance programs starting in 2000 with self-funded vision and dental.
White said the association has looked into other types of coverage that can be pooled and discounted from county employees across the state.
Sun Life Insurance is offering the best pricing for life insurance, he said.
Sun Life offers a life insurance policy with triple indemnity if an employee has an accidental death on the job, he said.
Typically the county would pay for a minimum base benefit and individuals would have a buy-up option.
White added that the policy has a three-year rate guarantee. Because the policy is underwritten by the association of counties, the offer is especially beneficial for smaller counties.
Commission President Jerry Berry requested White come back with a quote for Summers County. Then the commission will look at the possibility of providing basic life insurance for county employees, he said.
