ZURICH (Dow Jones)–Growth prospects for insurance companies are brightening after premiums declined last year, but low interest rates and intense competition mean that profits remain under pressure, a study by one of the world’s largest reinsurance companies found Tuesday.
A survey of insurance markets in 159 countries found that premiums contracted 1.1% in 2009 to $4.066 trillion, representing an improvement over the prior year, when premiums fell 3.6%.
