Post offices to stay open longer for Christmas

The FINANCIAL — An extra 300 post offices across Australia will operate extended trading hours in December to allow customers to collect parcels and access a range of postal services outside of normal business hours.

Between December 1 and 23, the additional 300 stores will open until 6pm or 7pm weekdays and on Saturday mornings to provide customers with greater access, convenience and choice.
Australia Post Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Fahour said extended trading hours in an extra 300 stores meant Australia Post would have 700 stores trading beyond 5pm weekdays and over 2,400 post offices trading on a Saturday in the lead up to Christmas which is over 50% of the retail network.Mr Fahour announced the extended trading hours today as he officially opened the Brisbane GPO as Australia Post’s first “super store” to be a one-stop shop for travel, financial and online shopping.
The next post offices to be transformed into super stores include Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, Bourke Street in Melbourne, Cloisters Square in Perth, Rundle Mall in Adelaide and Cameron Street in Launceston. Mr Fahour also announced today the launch of Australia Post’s own travel insurance product, further expanding Australia Post’s business beyond traditional mail services.
To cater for Australians’ love of travel, dedicated American Express currency exchange outlets will also open in 200 Australia Post retail stores around Australia to complement the existing over-the-counter foreign exchange services.
With its new offer of travel insurance and foreign exchange outlets plus its existing passport services, Australia Post aims to be a one-stop travel bureau for customers planning a holiday or business trip.
