After launching an app, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority has launched a WAP site that helps you narrow down on the right insurance policy and double check premium rates.

An iPhone app developed by Hyderabad-based YQ Soft Labs Pvt Ltd was launched by IRDA in October this year. IRDA has announced that the app is available for Android, Nokia and Blackberry handsets too. The WAP site M.Irda.gov.in is for mobile users with Internet-enabled feature phones. They can access the same real-time information from the authority’s database.

Taiwan investigators yesterday interviewed a Taiwan businessman accused by mainland police of chopping off his own hand in an attempt to defraud his insurer, saying they would not prosecute the man on the strength of evidence furnished by mainland authorities alone.

Hu Chi-yang (胡其揚), who claims his left hand was severed by muggers when he was visiting Putian District in the mainland coastal province of Fujian three weeks ago, can claim more than NT$50 million in compensation from insurers from which he had bought travel insurance prior to his departure from Taiwan, according to mainland investigators.

Phase three of the Smartraveller programme was launched on Friday by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kevin Rudd MP, with AFTA Chief Executive, Jayson Westbury heralding the new initiatives as “a fantastic way to engage with travellers and the industry”.

The $13 million Government funded campaign has been in development for over four years and was in need of a revamp following a surge of some 2 million Australian travellers to 7.6 million in the past five years, according to Mr Rudd.

Berkshire India, which is a corporate agent of Bajaj Allianz, currently sells motor and travel insurance products online through its distribution portal BerkshireInsurance.com.

The man at the center of the investigation into the disappearance of a Frederick woman is set to go free.A judge has ruled that Gary Giordano, who has been jailed for four months in connection with the disappearance of Robyn Gardner, should be released. Gardner’s body has yet to be found. Throughout the investigation, Giordano has said he was innocent.The two were in Aruba for three days when Gardner suddenly vanished. Two days after her disappearance, Giordano tried to cash in a travel insurance policy he took out on her. A tourist snapped pictures of the two together shortly before Gardner disappeared.Giordano told investigators that Gardner was swept under by the current during a snorkeling trip. Surveillance video showed Giordano looking for help minutes after Gardner vanished.Chris Lejuez, Giordano’s attorney said, “All the proof that I have seen, everything up to now that I have seen clears Gary Giordano and confirms his version of the facts.” But investigators said there were inconsistencies with Giordano’s story.If the prosecution’s request for an appeal is denied, Giordano may be able to leave the island by Tuesday. Giordano’s detention had been extended in 30 day increments several times since he was taken into custody.”Once I asked him what he really feel about his release.. Giordano started to cry and asked me to excuse him for a few minutes,” said Lejuez.Gardner and Giordano met on a dating site and had known each other for a substantial amount of time, friends in Maryland said.Gardner’s boy friend said the two had a falling out before she went to Aruba.A Facebook page started by Gardner’s Maryland friends includes angry reactions to Giordano’s release.
