Travellers angered by aviation taxes

by admin on Nov.26, 2011, under Travel insurance

British travel insurance customers are becoming increasingly angered by the continued high rate of aviation tax, as the government gets ready to increase them by twice the rate of inflation.

A survey from the Association of British Travel Agents has found that British holidaymakers are already displeased with the amount of tax they are charged, with 69 per cent saying they feel it is too high.

As money issues get worse for many, more are also now watching what they are paying, with 65 per cent now looking at what tax they are charged, compared to 58 per cent last year.

Recently, American Express reported that British travellers were becoming more financially savvy, with more opting for better value short haul trips rather than heading to the US.

The British public pay the highest aviation tax in the world, and Mark Tanzer, ABTA chief executive, said: “Our research shows that the public is wising up to this and is saying, enough is enough, no more increases.”
